LA County sheriff's employee gunned down
A civilian employee of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department was gunned down in a car-to-car shooting in Vermont Knolls.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A civilian employee of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was gunned down in Los Angeles' Vermont Knolls neighborhood.

Authorities responded to a shooting call in the 1000 block of West 76th Street at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and found Calvin Gray in his vehicle with gunshot wounds. The 33-year-old Los Angeles resident was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Gray had just dropped off his 8-year-old son near the intersection of South Vermont Avenue and West 76th Street when he was shot from someone in another car. Gray's vehicle struck several parked cars before coming to a stop.

A motive has not been determined. Gray worked as a security officer for the sheriff's department. Authorities say Gray was off-duty at the time of the shooting.
