San Pedro sushi restaurant Senfuku to close after 45 years

SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A beloved Japanese family restaurant in San Pedro is preparing to close its doors after 45 years of serving the community.

Helen and Yoshi Kikuchi, owners of Senfuku, are retiring and shutting down the longtime restaurant.

Senfuku first opened in 1974 before relocating to its current location on Sixth Street in 1982. Since then, the restaurant has become a sushi destination in San Pedro.

Among its regular patrons over the years was writer Charles Bukowski.

Helen and Yoshi Kikuchi said they will miss their loyal customers most.

"There were many, many customers who became friends and we went to their celebrations, and they came to our celebrations," Helen said. "I'm going to miss them all."

Senfuku's final dinner service is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
