50-acre Laguna Beach brush fire closes 2 parks

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 50-acre brush fire in Laguna Beach forced fire officials to close two parks in Orange County on Sunday.

The Orange County Fire Authority said more than 120 firefighters were battling the blaze that sparked off of Laguna Canyon Road at about 1 p.m.

The OCFA said the forward progress of the fire was stopped and the blaze was at 60 percent containment.

As a precaution, the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park was evacuated. Coastal Peak Park was also closed to allow helicopters assisting with the brush fire to land.

A portion of Laguna Canyon Road was closed, but has since been reopened. Ridge Park Road near Coastal Peak Park at Ziani and E. Coastal Peak was closed.

No other evacuations were in place and fire officials said no structures were threatened.

The OCFA said crews were monitoring a coastal breeze that was slightly pushing the fire. No injuries were reported.
