MURRIETA, Calif. (KABC) -- Firefighters are closer to fully extinguishing the Liberty Fire, which chewed through 300 acres and destroyed one home in Murrieta, officials said.

The brush fire, which also leveled six outbuildings, was 90 percent contained on Saturday, according to Cal Fire. No injuries were reported.

It began about 1:15 p.m. Thursday near Los Alamos Road and Liberty Road, then went on to engulf a residence on a ridge. Witnesses near the scene said they could hear the sound of propane tanks exploding at residences in the distance.

As a precaution, all 20 campuses within the Murrieta Valley Unified School District were closed Friday, and all school events and activities were canceled. All evacuation orders were lifted by noon Friday.
