LOS ANGELES -- The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are celebrating the best shows and performances from the past year, with some of television's biggest names competing for top honors.
The award show is now underway in Los Angeles.

'Buffy' turns 30
Just six months after the "Buffy" reboot was scrapped, stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz reunited onstage to celebrate the show's 30th anniversary.

After Boreanaz mused whether their characters, Buffy and Angel, would ever get together, Gellar had a sharp retort referencing the cancellation.
"Guess we'll never find out!" Gellar said.
She also acknowledged it had been a tough two years for the show's cast and crew, implicitly acknowledging the recent deaths of actors Anthony Head (Giles), Nicholas Brendon (Xavier) and Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn).

Noah Wyle wins Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series

Wyle thanked his fellow nominees, including "Slow Horses" star Gary Oldman, in his acceptance speech.
"I grew up in LA. I'm a Hollywood kid. I was raised on a television, and movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I've ever wanted to do, and this is the only club I've ever wanted to join," Wyle said. "Thank you for accepting me."
Nominees included Sterling K. Brown for "Paradise," Oldman for "Slow Horses," Mark Ruffalo for "Task" and Rufus Sewell for "The Diplomat."

The Emmy for outstanding reality competition program went to "The Traitors."
