2 fatalities confirmed in Eaton Fire, about 100 structures destroyed

At least two people have been killed and several others injured in the Eaton Fire near Altadena, which has destroyed more than 100 structures while burning 2,227 acres, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Fire officials announced the developments at a morning news conference. The deceased were identified only as civilians. Details of how and where they died were not immediately released.

At least two people have been killed and several others have been injured in the Eaton Fire.

The devastating fire continued to burn uncontrolled as of 8 a.m.

The fire expanded rapidly overnight and into the early morning hours -- at the time the winds were forecast to be the strongest of a windstorm that began Tuesday morning and was set to continue into Thursday. The erratic winds grounded aerial firefighting assets, and ground crews were unable to keep pace with the flames' advance.
