Communities across Southern California are cleaning up after several days of showers across the region.

Evacuation warnings were in place for neighborhoods across Los Angeles County, primarily in areas surrounding recent burn scars -- including in Altadena around the Eaton Fire burn scar.

While rain is still falling in some areas, rain chances are finally moving east, with heavier cells expected to die down by Sunday night.

A chance for scattered showers is in the forecast on Monday morning, with rain chances sticking around through the afternoon.

From there, another storm system that we were tracking is now predicted to stay offshore, so the sun should come out by Tuesday or Wednesday. Most areas see a maximum of a 20% chance of rain on Tuesday, followed by a rain-free week.

Coastal areas brace for king tides this weekend

King tides are headed to the Southern California coast after the area was slammed by recent storms.

King tides are headed to the Southern California coast after the area was slammed by recent storms.

"This particular week, we have some very high, high tides," said Trevor McDonald, the Marine Safety Division chief in Huntington Beach. "If you have the king tide and the rain all at the same time, it can increase the amount of water that we're seeing and that we'll need to outflow and move out."

McDonald says preparations for the exceptionally high tides expected Friday and Saturday morning are underway.

"We're having lifeguards report early. We're watching all these conditions as they're happening. We're communicating with public works, and essentially, we'll be able to rebuild those berms as needed," he said.

King tides caused minor flooding in Seal Beach back in November.

King tides can cause dramatic shoreline changes, flooding in low-lying coastal areas, and bring strong swells and currents with them, affecting everything from roads along the water to when and where you should walk on the beach.'

"They have the potential for strong surges that are pushing up past previous high tide lines. So you can see those surges, and as the water retreats back into the ocean, it can cause some hazardous areas," McDonald said.

McDonald's advice? Check in with a lifeguard.

"They're going to educate everybody that comes down here and let them know where the safest spot to swim is, where the safest spot to recreate is, where's the safest spot to take beach walks, any of those things," he said.

Once the king tides decrease slightly on Sunday, McDonald says that's when there will be an increase in the surf. Waves near the Huntington Beach pier are expected to be between four and six feet, and up to eight feet in other areas.

"We're going to see surf out of the west, northwest in the four-to-six-foot range, short interval wind swell, and so, that has the potential to impact the high tides a little bit as well," he said.

Debris flow goes into backyard of Sherman Oaks home

A saturated hillside gave way in the pounding rain in Sherman Oaks, unleashing a wall of mud into a backyard.

A saturated hillside gave way in the pounding rain in Sherman Oaks, unleashing a wall of mud into a backyard.

It's exactly what residents were preparing for in the time leading up to the rain -- debris flow, mudslides and flooding.

Two people were forced to evacuate their home in the 3900 block of Pacheco Drive after rain caused a mudslide early Thursday morning.

Video from AIR7 shows debris from an embankment flowing down a hill and into a backyard.

Thankfully, a contractor who spoke with Eyewitness News off-camera said they had just installed a reinforcement wall two months prior, preventing any structural damage.

"Our power went out for a few hours, but really, like in my neighborhood, we're kind of up there, so it's like, there's mud everywhere, and it's really hard to get around, get out of my house," said Miki Horvath from Studio City.

The storm that hit right in time for the holidays didn't make it easy for people to get around.

"It was kind of annoying, like my grandparents couldn't come to Christmas Eve because they couldn't drive in the rain, and so it made -- we had to stay in, and we couldn't go to church, like the things we usually do, because the rain was really crazy," said Scarlett Duncan from Valley Village.

The storm could be to blame for some power outages. In Sherman Oaks, 420 customers lost power. In the Vermont Slauson area, 2,000 customers experienced outages. In Los Feliz and Highland Park, 300 customers in both neighborhoods experienced sporadic outages.

"I experienced a power outage at my house in Encino, where we didn't have power on New Year's Eve, so I had to cook an entire Greek recipe that I've made on my grill," said Michael Kase.

Most of the power outages have since been restored.
