Rancho Fire burns 13 acres in Thousand Oaks, forward progress stopped

The Rancho Fire burning on the southbound side of the 101 Freeway near the 23 Freeway in Thousand Oaks has now burned 13 acres, but firefighters have managed to stop its forward progress.

The Ventura County Fire Department says helicopters had been making water drops at the head of the fire as gound crews established a containment line.

Crews have started to be released from the scene but fire officials say firefighters will remain overnight to mop up and ensure "every hotspot will be extinguished tonight."

As crews battle a wildfire threatening homes in Riverside County and another in Santa Clarita that has already scorched more than 76 acres, firefighters in Ventura County are battling a vegetation fire that broke out near the hills of the 101 and 23 freeways in Thousand Oaks.

The Rancho Fire has already scorched 5 acres, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

As crews battle a wildfire threatening homes in Riverside County and another in Santa Clarita that has already scorched more than 76 acres, firefighters in Ventura County are battling a vegetation fire that broke out near the hills of the 101 and 23 freeways in Thousand Oaks.

Crews are battling the flames from the air and from the ground.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries or homes and structures threatened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Plenty Fire in Santa Clarita burns at least 76 acres

Fire officials say the Plenty Fire burning in Santa Clarita has increased to at least 76 acres. Firefighters continue making progress with air and ground attacks.

Three firefighters were escorted off the fire line with minor injuries due to the heat, according to Angeles National Forest officials.

The fire's forward progress has been stopped.

Crews battling fires in Homeland and Santa Clarita

A wildfire burning in Riverside County prompted evacuations Friday afternoon.

The so-called Hills Fire was reported at about 2:11 p.m. near Juniper Flats Road and Mapes Road in Homeland, according to Cal Fire. It has already burned more than 70 acres and is 0% contained.

Some 20 to 30 homes were threatened, officials said.

The evacuated zone includes North of Falcon View Lane, South of Juniper Flats Road, East of Alicante Drive and West of Minton Road.

An evacuation center has been set up at Tahquitz High School, located at 4425 Titan Trail in San Jacinto.

There are no reports of injuries.

Meanwhile, crews are battling the Plenty Fire burning in Santa Clarita. The fire was reported at about 4 p.m. in the area of West Copper Hill Drive and North Haskell Canyon Road, according to Angeles National Forest.

Los Angeles County firefighters are battling a blaze that broke out in Santa Clarita Friday afternoon.

The cause of both fires is unknown at this time.
