Loretta Sanchez discusses Democratic politics, Senate election on Newsmakers
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez discussed her Senate election against Kamala Harris and Democratic Party politics this week on Eyewitness Newsmakers.

GLENDALE (KABC) -- Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, D-46th District, was this week's guest on Eyewitness Newsmakers.

She spoke just before leaving for the Democratic National Convention, where she is a superdelegate.

She is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Boxer.

For the first time, the November election for the Senate seat is a faceoff between two Democrats.

President Barack Obama has endorsed Sanchez' opponent, California Attorney General Kamala Harris. Sanchez expressed disappointment with the president's decision, saying he should devote his time to elections for candidates facing Republicans or to getting Hillary Clinton elected.

Sanchez does part with the president over his support for the Trans Pacific Partnership.

She said the Democratic Party is split on the issue. She sides with labor, which says the TPP gives advantage to countries who do not trade fairly.

Kamala Harris is scheduled to be a guest on Newsmakers in two weeks.

Eyewitness Newsmakers airs Sunday at 11 a.m. on ABC7.
