LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles County officials warned residents Thursday to be prepared for a storm that is forecasted to sweep through the area overnight.
Officials outlined emergency preparations and noted that flooding and power outages were possible.
Los Angeles County Board Supervisor Michael Antonovich pointed to a 2011 incident when wind storms left thousands without power for weeks.
"It was dishonorable what they had done. Hopefully, Southern California Edison has learned from their past. And if they haven't we have to look for alternatives," Antonovich said.
Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby warned residents not to underestimate moving water, mud flows and downed power lines.
"History indicates if you do, that could potentially cost you your life and the lives of those around you," Osby said.
The fire department boosted its staffing in preparation for the rain, including rescue teams on standby.
