WESTLAKE DISTRICT, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Volunteers will begin filling the lake at MacArthur Park Friday with 3,000 hand-painted inflatable spheres as part of a public arts installation.
"Spheres of MacArthur Park" was organized by the Santa Monica-based nonprofit Portraits of Hope.
Each orb is 4- to 6-feet in diameter and covered in bright floral and fish patterns.
Ed Massey, co-founder of Portraits of Hope, estimates the installation will be ready for public viewing by Monday. The spheres will be in place for a four-week run.
After the exhibit closes, the spheres will be donated to schools, hospitals and other organizations.
