Malibu Canyon Road reopens after car strikes power pole

MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- Malibu Canyon Road reopened hours after a vehicle struck a wooden power pole Saturday, causing the pole to block lanes.

The southbound lanes of the canyon road were closed at Mulholland Drive, and the northbound lanes were closed at Seaver Drive.

The main road between Calabasas and Malibu reopened around 10:30 p.m. as Southern California Edison crews worked to make repairs.

No one was injured in the crash, which took place two miles up the canyon from Malibu.

The pole carries a 66,000-volt feeder that supplies much of Malibu with its primary electric supply. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said sporadic blackouts had been reported. Several signal lights were out on Pacific Coast Highway.

More than 3,300 customers lost power after the crash. Full electrical service was restored at about 11 a.m.

Drivers were urged to choose alternate routes. Major traffic delays were expected.
