'Jem and the Holograms' film adds Molly Ringwald, Juliette Lewis

LOS ANGELES -- A movie that pays tribute to an iconic '80s cartoon deserves an '80s icon and since it's about some pretty fierce female singers, why not get two of the best?

Molly Ringwald, star of cult movies such as "The Breakfast Club," "Pretty In Pink" and "Sixteen Candles," will star in the new "Jem and the Holograms" film. In addition, Juliette Lewis has also joined the cast. Both actresses are also singers.

Director Jon M. Chu had revealed the addition of Lewis on Twitter on Monday and on Tuesday, Ringwald tweeted a photo of herself with the latter actress on the set. The stars' roles have not been revealed.

In the picture (featured above), Ringwald appears with a short, blonde 'do, a look she's been sporting for several months, replacing the red-headed look she became famous for in the '80s. The actress, a natural brunette (as revealed in her 2010 book "Getting the Pretty Back: Friendship, Family, and Finding the Perfect Lipstick"), also had red hair while playing Anne Juergens on her most recent acting gig on the ABC Family series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," which ended its five-season run in June 2013.

Lewis is best known for roles in films such as the 1990s films "Natural Born Killers" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?"

"Jem and the Holograms" stars Aubrey Peeples of "Nashville" fame and is about a group of young, teen female musicians. The original 1980s series was animated and aired between 1985 and 1987. Check out more details about "Jem and the Holograms" and its other cast members.
