First death reported from Napa earthquake

NAPA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 65-year-old woman who suffered a head injury during last month's earthquake in Napa Valley has died, sheriff's officials said.

This is the first death linked to the 6.0-magnitude quake that shook California's wine country on Aug. 24.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office said Laurie Anne Thompson died Friday of an intracranial hemorrhage. She was struck in the head by a television in her home during the earthquake. Thompson went to the hospital the next day after feeling dizzy and experiencing a decline in mental function.

The earthquake did not claim any other lives, but left scores of people injured and destroyed dozens of homes and buildings.
