Mira Costa High School cancels classes after bomb threat

Mira Costa High School students were evacuated to the sports fields after the school received a bomb threat call on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

Classes were canceled at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach Monday morning after an anonymous bomb threat prompted a school-wide evacuation, school officials said.

Students and staff were evacuated to the sports fields after a caller contacted the school shortly after 8 a.m. and stated there was a bomb on campus, spokeswoman Carolyn Seaton with the Manhattan Beach Unified School District said.

Seaton said the campus was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. School officials asked parents and guardians to pick up their children at Meadows Avenue ramp.

Manhattan Beach police conducted a room-by-room sweep of the high school, located at 1401 Artesia Boulevard, but no suspicious items were found.

Police are working to identify the caller, who was described only as a male.
