5 people injured in car crash on Pacific Coast Highway near Laguna Beach

Five people were hospitalized, two in critical condition, following a car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway near El Moro Ridge.

The accident happened around 9:20 p.m. Monday on the highway just north of Laguna Beach.

Two people, a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, were ejected from a black SUV and suffered serious injuries. They were both taken to separate hospitals nearby.

Authorities said a 10-year-old boy and a 30-year-old passenger also in the SUV suffered minor injuries. A 70-year-old woman, the sole occupant in the other car, suffered minor injuries. All three were also taken to local hospitals.

Both directions of the PCH were temporarily closed between Laguna Beach and Newport Beach city limits.

The cause of the crash was unknown and under investigation.
