SANTA CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- A search is under way for a missing diver who disappeared near the Two Harbors area of Catalina Island.

According to sheriff's authorities, a recreational diving vessel reported a diver in distress shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday around Indian Rock.

Several divers were on a lobster diving trip at the time. Witnesses say the diver surfaced and yelled for help, but went back under shortly after that.

Investigators are trying to determine if this was a diving accident or if foul play was involved. A helicopter, boats and divers were being used in the search.
