FDNY captain charged with sexually molesting 2 boys in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A New York City Fire Department captain was charged Monday with sexually molesting two young boys in Hollywood, Los Angeles County district attorney officials said.

Capt. Wilbert Riera, 51, was arrested Friday at a fire station in Staten Island and faces six felony counts of lewd acts with children under 14.

The felony complaint, filed Sept. 19, alleges the acts occurred between Sept. 12 and 14, when Riera was visiting Los Angeles.

Riera, who has been with FDNY for 21 years and most recently served as captain in charge of EMS on Staten Island, was suspended without pay. He is expected to be extradited from New York. Prosecutors plan to ask for his bail to be set at $2.6 million.

If convicted, Riera faces life in state prison.
