Fontana man arrested for Denny's robbery

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A Fontana resident accused of stealing cell phones in a Denny's Restaurant parking lot was arrested after a deputy-involved shooting.



Rolando Soto, 29, was found running away from the 6800 block of Valley Way in Jurupa Valley at about 6 p.m. Saturday, deputies said. Soto allegedly assaulted a victim in the parking lot and stole the victim's cell phones.



Jurupa Valley deputies chased Soto into the backyard of a private home in the 7100 block of Valley Way.



When Soto allegedly reached for his waistband, a deputy shot at him. Neither Soto nor the deputy was struck by gunfire. The victim of the robbery suffered a minor injury.
