Man shot, killed while sitting in car in Covina restaurant parking lot

COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was shot and killed while sitting inside a car with his friend in Covina Saturday morning.

Authorities said around 11:51 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 800 block of West San Bernardino Road. The victim was shot by an unknown male suspect while he was sitting in his friend's car in a restaurant parking lot.

After the victim was shot, his friend drove away from the scene and into the parking lot of Faith Community Church in West Covina, police said. There, local emergency personnel responded to the scene but the victim was pronounced dead.

Because the shooting occurred in Covina, the Covina Police Department's homicide division will be handling the investigation.
