Mission Viejo man booked for murder in wife's death

Woman's body found in Mission Viejo home; suspect detained
The body of a woman in her 60s was found in a Mission Viejo home Tuesday, and a suspect has been detained.

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 74-year-old man was booked for murder following the death of his wife in Mission Viejo Tuesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.



At about 12:35 p.m., Gary Lee Parsons, 74, of Mission Viejo allegedly called 911 and told deputies he had killed his wife, 73-year-old Barbara Parsons, during a physical altercation inside the couple's home in the 27000 block of Pueblo Nuevo Drive.



Responding deputies found the suspect sitting in his car. Deputies entered the residence and found Barbara's body.



The coroner's office will determine the victim's cause of death following their investigation. The motive remains unknown.



Gary was booked into Orange County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
