NEW YORK (KABC) -- Rapper Yung Berg, who stars on the VH1 reality show "Love & Hip Hop Hollywood," was arrested following a domestic assault incident involving his girlfriend at a New York City hotel.

New York police told WABC-TV that officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at the Gershwin Hotel in Manhattan at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The 30-year-old rapper, whose given name is Christian Ward, and his 29-year-old girlfriend were fighting, police said. His girlfriend claimed that Ward grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the ground, dragged her by the hair and punched her in the face.

The woman told police that she was in pain, but she refused medical attention at the scene.

Ward was charged with "criminal obstruction of breathing." He was expected to appear in court sometime Wednesday.

His representative and VH1 did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
