LEAGUE CITY, TX (KABC) -- A high-speed chase in League City, Texas, ended with a violent accident that left six people dead, police say.
League City and Dickinson police officers were at the scene of the horrific crash until around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Dickinson police say an officer tried to pull over a Dodge Durango for a traffic violation, but when the officer turned on his emergency lights, the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
Those who live nearby told ABC affiliate KTRK-TV that a Dickinson police officer was following a speeding Dodge Durango on Ohio Street when the Durango slammed into an Honda Accord at FM 646 at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers say the chase suspect blew through a stop sign just before the collision.
The impact was so intense, the Accord was pushed into a ditch and knocked down power lines. The victims in the Accord were identified as a married couple, Rafael Guerrero, 41, and Alejandra Guerrero, 38, their 15-year-old son, and the woman's 25-year-old brother, Gilberto Ortega Jr. All four died on scene.
Two people in the suspect vehicle were also killed. Police say the suspect driving the Durango was 23-year-old Juan Garcia Ahuezoteco. His passenger was identified as Alejandro Molina. Authorities say Ahuezoteco had an outstanding felony warrant for driving while intoxicated.
Power was knocked out to the neighborhood until 4 a.m. Monday. No identities of those killed have been released yet.
