Thousands of Red Cross volunteers, armed forces personnel and emergency rescue workers set out to help those living near the coastal regions where the quake struck. Photos and video posted to social media show the massive damage and panic caused by the earthquake in Ecuador.
This drone footage shows a collapsed bridge after the quake.
Ecuador's National Police tweeted an image of a child being rescued from the quake.
