NAPA, Calif. (KABC) -- Winemakers in Napa Valley woke up to thousands of broken bottles and barrels on Sunday.
The earthquake couldn't have come at a worse time for the region, which had just started harvesting this year's crop.
One winemaker said he lost 50 percent of his wine. His bottles retail between $40 and $100.
Another winery said one lost barrel of pinot noir was worth $16,000.
Elsewhere in the region, red wine stains were visible outside the doors of warehouses.
