1 killed, 1 transported to hospital after Northridge crash

NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person was killed and another was transported to the hospital after a large truck and another vehicle collided near the gate of a home in Northridge.

The crash occurred at Lassen Street and Hayvenhurst Avenue around 10:30 a.m. The collision resulted in a fire, that was quickly extinguished by firefighters who responded to the scene.

Officials said the driver of the Enterprise rental truck was transported to a hospital, and the driver of the second vehicle, possibly a Nissan Xterra, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said another adult was treated at the scene and released.

Investigators say the driver of the second vehicle may have run a red light and caused the crash.

Traffic was temporarily shut down in all four directions at the intersection due to the incident. The exact cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
