EASTVALE, Calif. (KABC) -- An officer-involved shooting was reported in Eastvale during a standoff with a suspect on Monday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's officials said the shooting happened during a standoff in the 5700 block of Westchester Way around 4:30 p.m.

Eastvale police officers initially responded to a call of a possible overdose. When they arrived, they were informed a gunshot was heard inside the home and that someone may have been hit.

Officers entered the home to find a victim and provide help, but ended up locating a suspect who was inside a room and refused to come out.

The man, identified as 40-year-old Eastvale resident Thomas Williams, ended up firing multiple rounds through the door in the officers' direction. Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station, Riverside and Corona police departments and a SWAT team responded to help.

With the aid of the other officers and deputies, the Eastvale police stuck inside the home were able to get out without injury. Eventually, law enforcement officials were involved in a shooting with Williams, but no one was hit.

Authorities took Williams to a hospital as a precaution, and he was later arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder.

Only two officers were involved in the shooting, authorities said, one from Corona and the other from the Riverside police department. Both have been placed on administrative leave as part of the departments' policies in officer-involved shootings.

Anyone with more information on the incident was asked to call the Eastvale Police Department's Central Homicide Investigator Posson at (951) 955-2777.
