CORONA, Calif. (KABC) -- An off-duty police officer was killed in an accident on the westbound 91 Freeway in Corona on Thursday.
The incident happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. at Main Street. The officer's name has not been released, but the San Bernardino Police Department confirmed that the officer was one of their officers, an 8-year veteran of their police department.
Authorities say the officer was traveling on his personal motorcycle in the carpool lane, and at some point, he collided with another vehicle. His body was thrown over the center divider into the path of a car traveling eastbound.
The officer's body was draped with a California flag, a gesture of respect for his role in providing community safety.
Both sides of 91 Freeway were briefly closed due to the investigation. All lanes reopened just before 11 a.m.
