Suspect leads CHP on chase from Kern County to Antelope Valley

ANTELOPE VALLEY -- A suspect led CHP officers on a chase from Kern County to Lancaster for almost an hour before surrendering on the side of the 14 freeway.

CHP officers began chasing the male suspect from Kern County after his license plate was tracked to an arrest warrant. He fled and officers followed him to the 14 freeway through the Antelope Valley.

Officials said he also tried to run over an officer during the pursuit.

Speeds averaged around 65 mph, but at one point hit up to an estimated 110 mph.

CHP officers also put a spike strip on the freeway in the Lancaster area, but the suspect apparently saw it on the road and swerved to avoid it.

The chase ended after about an hour with the suspect pulling over on the freeway in Lancaster. The suspect put his hands out the window and complied with officers' commands to walk backwards toward them, when he was handcuffed with no additional resistance.
