Man arrested at Trump LA golf course days before president's planned visit

RANCH PALOS VERDES, Calif. (KABC) -- A man who was allegedly taking photos and videos and "appearing to monitor security-planning activities" at President Donald Trump's Los Angeles-area golf course was arrested on Sunday, days before the president's planned visit, according to authorities.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, was arrested after federal agents reported a suspicious person at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. He was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and possession of armor-piercing/prohibited ammunition.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Taele was seen walking through the golf course grounds, "taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities."

Deputies detained Taele and determined he was being investigated for robbery by the El Segundo Police Department. His vehicle was found in a parking lot on the golf course.

According the sheriff's department, deputies recovered a 16-round magazine containing hollow point ammunition from Taele's pants pocket.

They also searched his vehicle and found a loaded pistol with a round chambered, along with an additional loaded magazine containing hollow point ammunition.

Deputies conduct search warrant

Deputies executed a search warrant Sunday at Taele's home in Downey and found the following items:

• An illegally modified AR platform rifle

• A 1911 .45 caliber pistol

• An AR platform upper receiver

• Body armor

• High-capacity magazines

• Bulk pistol and rifle ammunition

• Multiple notebooks containing concerning statements

• Two radio signal devices

The FBI and the Secret Service are both investigating the incident. Meantime, the sheriff's department said additional charges could be added as the investigation continues.

Taele remains in custody.
