Woman swipes credit card reader from East LA bakery, video shows

EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An investigation is underway following a brazen theft at a bakery in East Los Angeles that was caught on video.

A woman stole a credit card reader from Rene's Bakery over the weekend. The stolen device was then used to drain thousands of dollars from the business owner.

Footage from inside the business shows the woman lingering behind a pair of customers. She then stepped up to the counter to pay for an item with cash - and also asked for a couple bottles of water.

When the clerk turned to get the water, the woman at the counter grabbed the credit card reader and stuffed it in her sweater pocket.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is now investigating.
