HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Firefighters rushed to the Magic Castle in Hollywood Tuesday after a fire broke out in the attic, prompting evacuations and disrupting celebrations at the iconic venue.
Smoke was seen billowing from the building around 5:30 p.m. as the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the 7000 block of Franklin Avenue.
Fire officials said crews believe the fire started in an area where work was being done on the roof.
"Actually, in the attic space on the third floor. There were also occupants that were enjoying their evening here at the Magic Castle that we evacuated safely," LAFD Battalion Chief Ken Cook said.
More than 30 people were inside at the time. No one was injured.
A total of 68 firefighters responded to the scene, and a knockdown was achieved in 41 minutes, according to the LAFD.
The landmark location was built in 1909 and has served as a members-only clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts since 1963.
Owner and magician Randy Pitchford posted a photo on social media showing some of the damage and praised firefighters for saving the historic home.
It's not the first time the Magic Castle has caught fire. In 2011, an attic fire caused extensive damage.
The magic should return quickly this time as there was relatively minor damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
