EAGLE ROCK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Come grab a seat at Lola Café, located in the Los Angeles community of Eagle Rock.
"The fusion is California, Oaxaca, with a good quality coffee," Jorge Escaip said.
Here, owner Orlando Rodriguez provides an atmosphere and vibrant entrees that reflect his rich Oaxacan heritage.
"The people from Eagle Rock, for me, are the best, the best people in the United States," Rodriguez said. "Thank you, Eagle Rock, for that."
Named after his late mother Lola, he opened the shop two years ago.
The café quickly became a beloved restaurant after a neighbor posted about her positive experience there online.
"The next day, we have the line, and we never stopped," Rodriguez said. "The community is amazing."
Lola Café serves barbacoa breakfast sandwiches and Benedicts, sourdough soy chorizo cheese toast, and traditional and churro waffles.
The dish that transported me to the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca was a big plate of tortilla chips, with two over easy eggs, mole and black beans.
It is a best seller for good reason.
Traditional Oaxacan dishes like queso-topped plantains, and ice cream, fresh juices and countless coffee options just add to the already unforgettable experience.
"We try to do everything right and we try to do everything with love as well, so we feel so good," Escaip said.
Lola Café is open every day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is located at 2040 Colorado Blvd., in Los Angeles.
