North Hollywood taco spot named nation's best by Yelp

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It's no secret Los Angeles is a hotbed of mouth-watering tacos of all kinds, and Yelp's Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025 proves it.

Eighteen taco joints across the city made the list that was released Thursday.

Topping the list is Birrieria Familia Castro, located in North Hollywood and famous for its secret birria recipe.

According to Yelp, birria-style tacos are popular among people looking to squash their hunger.

Anthony Castro, the manager of the North Hollywood taco spot, says it was his father's dream to have a restaurant. His parents have juggled two jobs while running the restaurant.

Castro said they owe their success to a recipe passed down from his great grandmother.

"My grandmother, she's the reason why this all came about," he said. "It's her recipe. She makes the chile for us, and she's the one that got it all together. Without her, this wouldn't be possible."

Other L.A. favorites that made the list include Holbox, Mariscos El Chito, Conchita's Tacos, Tacos Guelaguetza and Mariscos Jalisco.

California dominated the list with 45 spots on the list. Texas, Arizona and Hawaii also had strong showings.
