LOS FELIZ, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Another water main break flooded roads, sidewalks and even a restaurant patio in Los Feliz overnight.

The 6-inch cast iron water main ruptured around 11 p.m. Thursday at Commonwealth Avenue and Avocado Street, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Crews responded to the scene and eventually stopped the water but the rushing water left behind damage, including a sidewalk that lifted and buckled. Video also shows small water geysers popping up through the concrete before crews arrived.

Aside from the damage, the flooding also interrupted a first date.

The man on the date, Damian, said he immediately jumped into action.

"I saw this river of brown water... I actually jumped over a portion of this river over here to get her across because I didn't want her stepping in the water," he said.

This incident was just the latest water main break to pop up across the Los Angeles area over the past several weeks. Since July 11, ABC7 has covered at least nine major water main breaks - that's more than one water main break per week.

The LADWP says their efforts to replace aging infrastructure has resulted in a leak rate that is 36% lower than the national average, investing nearly $1 billion in this specific repair work.

Crews eventually repaired the damaged water main break and Los Feliz and restored service to the area.
