Massive tree falls, crushes parked cars in Sherman Oaks

SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A massive pine tree snapped and fell onto a street in Sherman Oaks, crushing several parks cars and taking down several power lines.

The incident happened early Wednesday morning on North Sunnyslope Avenue near Riverside Drive.

Residents in the area said they were sound asleep when they heard a loud crash and briefly lost power.

"It felt kind of like an earthquake," one man, whose car was missed by just a few feet, told Eyewitness News. "It was a massive bang."

It's unclear exactly how many cars were damaged. No injuries were reported.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and tree-cutting crews responded to the scene to asses the damage and clean up the mess.

The tree toppled over on a night where there were winds across Southern California, but the National Weather Service doesn't believe this incident was wind-related.
