LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- New body camera video of a controversial arrest during a protest in downtown Los Angeles was released Friday, detailing the moments before a demonstrator was taken into custody.

The incident happened on June 10 when officers were trying to move an unruly crowd on Alameda Street.

The Los Angeles Police Department said several "uncooperative demonstrators" refused to leave and confronted officers on the skirmish line, including 30-year-old Daniel Robert Bill.

"After several commands to leave, Bill failed to cooperate by physically resisting and challenging officers," said police in a statement. "Officers used a combination of baton techniques and less-lethal munitions on Bill with no effect."

Police said officers used what was described as a "team takedown" to take Bill into custody, approaching him from behind.

Bill suffered a broken finger during the encounter, according to police, and was admitted to a nearby hospital for surgery. He was ultimately arrested for failing to disperse and resisting officers.

The incident remains under investigation.
