PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- The Pasadena Unified School District's All-Star band has been selected to march in the 138th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2027.
The All-Star band is comprised of 120 students from Pasadena, Muir, Marshall, and Blair High Schools. All of them can't wait to strut down the famous Colorado Blvd.
"This is just a huge moment, especially after all of the challenges we've had in the last year or so," said Oscar O'Connor, a junior from Blair High School.
Their growth since the devastating Eaton Fire is what makes this such a special reward.
"Just seeing how much we've grown and how far we've come, especially with everything that's happened recently," said Brianna Miguel, a senior from John Muir High School. "I know that everyone worked so hard and put so much into this, so it's so special to see everyone be rewarded in this way."
The Pasadena Unified District All-Star Band's video was submitted back in April. They made history by winning the prized musical entry spot in the Rose Parade, something that hasn't happened in decades.
"Last time we did it, it was an invite, so I feel like we really made it," said Karen Klages, director of the PUSD All-Star Band. "It gives those kids a chance to march down Colorado Blvd., and there really aren't that many people who have done it."
What once was a family tradition to watch every year will be a dream come true.
"I remember getting up really early to watch it all the time," said Saren Boschetti, a senior at Marshall High School.
For others this is a long-awaited dream to be a part of a 138-year tradition in Southern California.
"It's just amazing to see we finally got to this point where we can say that we are going to be a part of the Rose Parade," said Scarlett Glick, a Pasadena High School student.
