Shocking video shows yacht crash into wall near restaurant in Marina del Rey

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. (KABC) -- It was a frightening scene in Marina del Rey on Saturday afternoon, where a yacht struck a wall, startling diners inside a nearby restaurant.

The captain of that yacht is now being called a hero. The yacht was reportedly experiencing a mechanical failure during the crash.

Video from inside El Torito restaurant shows the boat coming toward diners as they watched through the windows.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. in the harbor. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Video shows damage to the front of the yacht. You can also see the mark where it collided with the wall.

Shortly after the mishap, the boat was towed away.

Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the crash. They said the luxury vessel had a mechanical failure. When the captain couldn't get to the engine quickly enough to stop it, they intentionally rammed the boat into the concrete barrier.
