Sun Valley tire shop workers featured in Oscar-nominated short film

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Celebrities won't be the only ones at the Oscars this weekend. We spoke to some local tire shop workers who landed roles in one of the films nominated for an award.

"The Singers" is nominated for best live-action short film. The movie's filmmaker used an unconventional method to find its talent and scoured social media to cast first-time actors in the film about mistreated men who connect through an impromptu sing-off.

Among them is a couple of "llanteros," or road service workers, from Sun Valley who gained popularity on Instagram for their viral dancing videos in front of their tire shop.

Jorge Linares and Luis Rigoberto Amaya were approached about being in the film, and they were shocked about the opportunity to be extras in the film, playing a version of themselves.

Amaya said they got his take in one shot.

"I didn't repeat the scene. Just one time," he said. "... That was a very important moment for me."

Amaya was invited to sit in the audience and will attend Sunday's awards ceremony. Linares and his son will attend a watch party.

They both said they were very excited to see themselves on the big screen and became emotional. They're most nervous about figuring out what to wear to the Oscars.
