Thousands gather for protest against Iranian regime in Westwood

WESTWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A massive demonstration was held in Westwood on Sunday. Thousands turned out against Iran's murderous regime.

Protesters packed the streets, waving flags and signs and standing in solidarity with the Iranian people.

Many hope the U.S. will take action against Iran following the Iranian government's brutal crackdown on protesters since December.

Human rights groups say the regime has killed thousands of Iranian citizens.

The people of Iran are under severe economic distress with high inflation and high unemployment.

Ongoing protests in Iran also call out political repression and corruption in the government.

"We're looking for freedom. We're looking for democracy, you know. The Iranian government could be changed, and this is what people want. This is everywhere around the world, including Iran," said Farshad Pourmiza.

"The Islamic, fascist Republic of Iran is suppressing the Iranian people, and as an American, I support freedom worldwide," said protester Jonathan Adler.

On Saturday, Iran released a list of 3,000 names it says are of those who died during protests there since the end of December.

However, human rights groups show far greater numbers, and they continue to investigate reports of more deaths.
