LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Rapper Warren G has joined the ownership group of the new Long Beach Baseball Club.
The "Regulate" rapper is a Long Beach native and says joining the ownership group is his chance to give back to the community.
"This is more than just owning part of a team, it's about giving back to my city," Warren G said in a statement. "Long Beach shaped me, and I want to help build something positive for the next generation. Baseball brings people together, and that's what I'm all about."
The rapper also told Eyewitness News that he wants the team name to be the Regulators, after his hit 1994 single.
"I love baseball," he said. "I'm a huge Dodger fan, but now we're going to have another team for everybody to root for, too, just like the Dodgers. We got the Long Beach Regulators."

He said he wants the team to reflect the city's energy, culture and diversity.
The new independent pro team is looking to play their games at Blair Field, the current home of the Long Beach State Dirtbags.
The club has the goal of playing in the Pioneer Baseball League in the 2026 season. The league is independent from Major League Baseball, but they collaborate on initiatives that support player development.
"Fans can expect an atmosphere that celebrates Long Beach through music, food, and community events, with potential for special performances, collaborative merchandise, and celebrity appearances," according to a team press release.
Warren G, whose real name is Warren Griffin III, helped popularize the G-funk sound in the 90s and was part of the hip-hop group 213 alongside Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg.
