LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- As a powerful storm made its way through Southern California, more than 50,000 residents around Los Angeles County lost power.

The powerful winds caused outages overnight, and Friday morning about 34,000 residences were without power, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. LADWP said that 19 crews were working to restore power. Officials estimated it could take about 12 hours to restore the power to all of LADWP customers.

By 3:30 p.m., LADWP estimated about 12,000 customers were still without power. According to the utility company, the affected areas were in Los Feliz, Vermont-Slauson, Vermont Knolls and San Pedro. As of 7 p.m. only 5,134 residents remained without power.

By 9:30 p.m., only 2,200 customers mostly in the El Sereno area were without power. By midnight, less than 300 customers were without power.

For areas serviced by Southern California Edison, 32,150 customers were without power. More than 18,000 customers were in Los Angeles County. More than 3,900 were in Tulane County and more than 3,100 were in San Bernardino County.

As of 3:30 p.m., Southern California Edison reported that 9,429 of its customers are still without power in areas that were hit the hardest by the storm. Almost 3,000 of those customers are in Los Angeles County, while 1,578 are in Ventura County and 1,451 are in Orange County. Crews are continually being sent to the hardest hit areas for repairs, as some electrical equipment was damaged by the storm, according to SCE officials.

As of Saturday afternoon, LADWP estimated about 1,900 customers were still without power near 11th Street in South Los Angeles.
