Rain causes damage, car wrecks across Southland

SILVER LAKE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Overnight rain was to blame for some property damage in Silver Lake as well as several car wrecks across the Southland.

The wet weather caused a tree to topple over a black Kia sedan in Silver Lake. The car's owner said she found out about the incident while she was watching the Oscars.

The tree, which was ripped at the roots, cracked the vehicle's windshield.

The rain triggered flash flood warnings for the Colby and Springs burn areas Sunday, but both were canceled as the wet weather weakened. But a low-pressure system can spin back around our area in the afternoon and bring more showers and even possible thunderstorm activity.

Mother Nature is also being blamed for slick roads that may have led to a number of accidents.

In Rosemead, a pickup truck overturned on the eastbound 60 Freeway at the San Gabriel Boulevard off-ramp. The incident, which occurred around 2:20 a.m., was originally called in as a hit-and-run but CHP later said that was not the case. One person was transported to an area hospital but was expected to be OK.

In downtown Los Angeles, an accident involving two vehicles caused backups on the eastbound 10 Freeway at the Central off-ramp. No one was injured in the wreck, which occurred around 1 a.m.

A car lost traction and smashed into a parked vehicle in South Los Angeles near the intersection of Central and 74th. One person was rushed to an area hospital but was expected to be OK.
