Retired officer arrested after shooting at shoplifting suspect in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A retired police officer was arrested and charged after opening fire on a shoplifting suspect in Riverside.

It happened in the parking lot of a Home Depot on Madison Street.

Witnesses say store employees were trying to stop the shoplifting suspect. That's when the retired officer began shooting at the man's car.

The ex-officer was taken into custody.

That man sustained minor injuries and drove himself to the hospital.

No one else was injured.
