Huntington Beach micro-brewery delivers beer to customers' homes

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A micro-brewery in Huntington Beach is marketing its product in an unusual way, by taking the custom-made beer directly to customers' homes.

Ryan Hopkins co-founded Riip Beer with his brother-in-law in 2014 after home brewing out of his garage. They soon moved into a warehouse, and because they're not permitted to sell beer out of it, use a 1931 Helms Bakery bread truck to get their product out.

"We thought it would be perfect, like the whole milk man of craft-beer. It's kind of a cool concept, especially with a milk jug," Hopkins said.

Not only does the truck bring the custom-brewed beer to customers, but it also features beer taps on the outside. Their delivery service became popular quickly.

"We just put it up on Facebook one day and said, 'Hey we're delivering,' and people started rolling orders through," co-owner Ryan Rasmussen said.

The three men who run the company had no experience in the beer business just two years ago.

But now, they've won Best Beer at Taste of Huntington Beach and in Newport Beach. They plan to open a tasting room in the next month.
