LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It took 17 years for painter and graphic artist Robert Rauschenberg to complete his artwork dubbed "The 1/4 Mile or 2 Furlong Piece," which can now be seen at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The work features 190 panels that measure approximately a quarter mile in length. It can now be viewed in its entirety for the first time.

It's a source of inspiration for the artist's son, Christopher Rauschenberg.

Rauschenberg grew up in the art world and sees his father's work come to life at the museum.

The piece features textiles, mass media images and photographs. Chairs, cardboard boxes and traffic lights are also incorporated into the piece.

Imagery from around the world can be viewed at the exhibit, including from Los Angeles.
