Vandals cut down 13 trees in Anaheim Hills park
Thirteen trees were discovered chopped down at Ronald Reagan Park in Anaheim Hills early Sunday morning.

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- More than a dozen trees have been chopped down at Ronald Reagan Park in Anaheim Hills. The damage was estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars. Police have no motive for the crime or any suspects identified.

Orange cones cover the ground where the trees stood at Ronald Reagan Park.

"It looks like someone came through here, maybe more than someone, maybe a group of people, with an ax, and chopped these trees down," said Anaheim Police Lt. Bob Dunn.

Early Sunday morning, park workers discovered that 13 trees of various kinds and sizes had been cut down.

"The trees were actually laying next to the now-stumps that were nearby," said Dunn.

The hilltop park is a popular spot for families, a hub for the community, especially during the summer, with sports activities and concerts in the park. The vandalism has residents asking why.

So far police say they don't know who did this. They have no motive, but they hope witnesses come forward.

"When you see something, say something. Usually people have a pretty good feeling. If something's not right and they don't feel like something's right, they should notify law enforcement," said Dunn.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS. Callers can remain anonymous.
