SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- Nine people were hospitalized following a three-vehicle collision in Santa Ana Tuesday night that may have been caused by a drunk driver.

Police say it appears that a passenger car ran a red light and hit an Orange County Transit Authority bus at the intersection of West 17th and North Fairview streets around 10:15 p.m. The bus then hit a truck pulling a trailer.

The impact caused the passenger car to overturn.

Nine people were taken to area hospitals to be treated for their injuries. The most seriously injured was 23-year-old Edgar Estrada, who was briefly trapped in his car after the crash. He was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Authorities believe Estrada was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and say the case will be submitted to the district attorney's office as a DUI.
