SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- The two people sought in a "selfie" that showed up on a burglary victim's cloud account have been identified and are cooperating with authorities.
On Wednesday afternoon, Santa Clarita deputies investigating a residential burglary released the selfie photo, calling the two people in the photo "persons of interest."
The man in the photo had apparently received the phone from his aunt, who purchased two phones at the San Fernando swap meet for $80.
The family contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to clear the mix-up and have been working with detectives.
Larry Beltran came to the Santa Clarita sheriff's station on Thursday to clear his name, along with his aunt, Angie Cabrera, who says she's the one who bought the phone at the San Fernando Swap Meet.
"These are the phones we got at the swap meet," said Cabrera. "This is the phone my nephew took the picture on. And that is why it's a big issue."
One phone had been stolen, along with cash and jewelry from a residence. That homeowner later looked at her iCloud account, saw the smiling images and let deputies do the rest.
Detectives say that selfie pair were always subjects of interest, not suspects.
"Me and my girlfriend just took pictures on the phone -- there was nothing on there, there was a bunch of apps but there was no contacts or anything like that," said Beltran.
Detectives now have the phones and may soon be looking for a mystery vendor at the San Fernando Swap Meet.
Beltran has not been officially cleared yet as of Thursday. He says he has nothing to hide.
Anyone with information about the ongoing burglary investigation is asked to call Los Angeles Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
